Saint Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton

 

  • Born: August 28, 1774  

  • Died: January 4, 1821

  • Beatified: March 17, 1963 by Pope John XXIII

  • Canonized: September 14, 1975 by Pope Paul VI

  • Feast: January 4 th

  • Recognitions:

    • Founder of the American Sisters of Charity

    • One of the founders & charter members of The Society for the Relief of Poor Widows with Small Children

    • First person born in the United States to become canonized as a saint

    • Commonly seen as a patron of Catholic schools

    • Established St. Joseph’s Academy and Free School – Emmitsburg, Maryland
