Music is an integral part of worship at St. Elizabeth’s. Hymn-singing is one of the oldest forms of prayer known in either Christianity or Judaism. In the fourth century St. Augustine is quoted as saying “To sing is to pray twice.” The Constitution of the Sacred Liturgy, No. 112 states “The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of immeasurable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred melody united to words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.”
You certainly don’t have to be a virtuoso to participate. We welcome all, from beginner to master. Won’t you consider joining one of our musical ensembles? There are many opportunities to volunteer:
- Organists and Cantors for weekend, and feast day services
- Musicians/instrumentalists (needed for weekend services. Play alone or assist another group.
- Adult choir (usually sings once a month from September through June and rehearses on Thursday evening.)
- Children’s choir (sings periodically throughout the year with special choirs for Christmas and Easter. Rehearsal times vary.)
- Home School choir (grades 2-12. Rehearsal immediately following Mass on the 1 st and 3 rd Fridays of the month)
